Basketball fans don’t have to wait much longer to get their hoops fix as Langley Events Centre gets set to host the Chinese U18 national team.

The Chinese girls’ squad is in the Lower Mainland for a four-game exhibition series, with the first three of those at LEC. The team is using this tour as part of their training camp as they prepare themselves for the FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asian Championship, which is slated to run in Bangalore, India from Oct. 28 to Nov. 3.

China – ranked ninth in the world for this age group – has won the biennial event four consecutive times.

Team China takes on the VK U17 Black on Aug. 29. The first game was last night (Aug. 28) against the Burnaby Ballers.

The Ballers were the Open Division runners-up at the 2018 girls bballnationals, also held at LEC earlier this month, while VK U17 Black won the U17 Division at that same event.

The final game in the Fraser Valley is set for Sept. 4 and will be against VK U17 Red, who finished second to VK U17 Black at bballnationals.

The Chinese team will conclude their trip by facing Sentinel West Van U17 Select on Sept. 5 at Sentinel Secondary in West Vancouver.

All four games begin at 7 p.m. and admission is by donation.
