The home fans get their first chance to catch a glimpse of the Langley Junior Thunder lacrosse team.
The Thunder host the Port Coquitlam Saints tonight (Thursday, May 10) at the Langley Events Centre. Game time is 8 p.m.
Langley is off to an 0-2 start to the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League season, falling 9-7 on May 5 to the Delta Islanders.
Despite being one of the league’s youngest squads, the Jr. Thunder qualified for the post-season in 2011 for the first time in six years and they return largely the same squad, losing only three players to graduation.
Reegan Comeault, who led the Jr. Thunder last year and was third in league scoring, is expected to rejoin the team once he is done his freshman season at Ohio State. Comeault had 89 points in just 21 games in 2011.
So is Brandon Bull, currently with Canisius College in Buffalo, who should be a powerful offensive force on the right side. Bull scored 30 goals and 57 points last season.
One of the team’s new acquisitions, Matt Messenger, is already paying dividends, as he scored four goals in the loss to the Islanders.
Langley should also be helped by three rookies who are making the jump from the intermediate Thunder squad.
Brett Dobray led the B.C. Intermediate A League in 2011 and will add scoring punch from the left-side.
He already has five goals and seven points in the team’s two games.
First round draft pick Conner Buick is expected to add offensive skill to the team.
Alex Margetson and Michael Bosch are being counted on to provide solid defence on the back-end.
Both Ryley Brown and Keegan Lambright are back in goal.
