Langley Junior Thunder slams Burnaby Lakers

The Thunder opened the scoring early and then wrapped up the game, too.

The Langley Junior Thunder racked up a win last week.

The team scored early and late but didn’t have much in between during their May 24 game against the Burnaby Junior Lakers.

The Thunder struck for four goals in the opening 11:14, and after scoring one goal over the next 39 minutes and change, scored three times in the final 9:40 to earn their third victory of the season.

The Thunder hosted the Lakers at Langley Events Centre on Thursday night with the victory evening Langley’s record to 3-3 in the BC Junior A Lacrosse League. The Lakers fell to 2-5 with the defeat.

Langley led 4-3 after one period and the teams were tied at five after 40 minutes as the offence dried up at both ends of the floor.

And after Burnaby scored early in the third – for their first and only lead of the night – Tesi Oakes pulled the home side even with 9:40 to go and Connor Watson struck for the winner 1:33 later.

Langley’s penalty kill had to be on its game, as well, as they were whistled for four minors in the third period alone, stymieing the Lakers on all four chances and adding a short-handed goal of their own. Dylan Mcintosh added an insurance marker with 1:42 go play for the 8-6 final score.

Oakes and Mcintosh had a pair of goals apiece while Ryan Martel continued his torrid pace with another goal and four helpers. In three games, Martel has managed six goals and 15 points.

Aiden Murphy and Caleb Pearson had the other Thunder markers.

Torin Vanrheenen finished with 33 saves to earn the victory.

Langley is back in action Friday (May 25) with a road game at the PoCo Rec Centre against the Port Coquitlam Saints.

Junior B Thunder

A five-goal second period was too much to overcome as the Langley Junior B Thunder saw their two-game win streak come to an end May 29.

The Thunder scored the only goal of the third period but were on the losing end of a 7-6 score to the Port Coquitlam Saints in BC Junior Tier 1 Lacrosse League action at Langley Events Centre on Tuesday night. The loss dropped Langley to 4-4 on the season while the Saints improved to 4-2-0-2.

Chase Moore had two goals and two assists to lead the Langley attack while Taylor Dudlets had one goal and two helpers.

Nathan Lavigne, Cooper Gettel and Matthew Abbott had a goal apiece.

The teams were tied at two after one period but the Saints scored five of the eight goals in the middle stanza for a lead they would not relinquish.

Langley does not have much time to dwell on the defeat as they are right back in action on May 30, visiting the Richmond Roadrunners at Minoru Arena in Richmond.
