The Langley Lawn Bowling Club let some newcomers try out its manicured greens on Saturday.
An open house was held, to tie into both National Bowls Day and ParticipAction, part of the Canada 150 celebrations.
Club veterans with name tags greeted newcomers and helped set them up with equipment, showed them how to throw, and schooled them on the rules of lawn bowling.
Frieda Struick drew praise from the longtime bowlers for her aim.
She admitted that this wasn’t the first time she’s lawn bowled. It was her second. She tried the sport a few years ago and had been drawn to the club by a friend who is already a member.
Marie Isaac was also a first timer. Her husband Ernie used to curl, but had to give it up due to bad knees.
The open house was followed Wednesday by a drop in session for Senior’s Week.
