Langley Rams Junior Football Club names new general manager

Former player and current coaching staff member Derek Henneberry picked for top job

The Langley Rams Junior Football Club has a new general manager.

President Dana Matheson announced the appointment of Derek Henneberry to the top job.

“We’ve identified Derek as someone that we feel has a very bright future in this role,” Matheson said.

“He is intelligent, forward thinking, well prepared in all facets and has a great football I.Q.”

“I am happy to take on this role and there is much work to do,” Henneberry said.

“I look forward to building on the club’s successes of 2018 and expect big things for this group in 2019.”

Henneberry, a Surrey native, was a member of Howie Zaron’s 2018 coaching staff.

His receiving corps were an integral part of an outstanding Rams season that included a Cullen Cup BCFC championship victory, Baron Trophy CJFL semi-final win over Hamilton and a national championship appearance against Saskatoon.

A graduate of Surrey’s Queen Elizabeth Secondary, Henneberry grew up on the football fields of Bear Creek Park, where he played at every level from atom to midget, for the North Surrey Minor Football Organization.

Henneberry played as a Ram, serving as a reliable receiver for the club in 2003, 2004 and the Cullen-Cup-winning 2005 season, the Surrey native played his final year of Junior eligibility in Kelowna in 2006.

Derek was a member of Zaron’s Chilliwack Huskers coaching staff in 2007 and 2008 and has been coaching the North Surrey Bears Midget program from 2012 to 2017, he spent the first four seasons as the Bears offensive coordinator and the final two as Head Coach.

During his time coaching the Bears, they appeared in three Provincial Midget championship games between 2013 and 2017, and they took home the top prize in 2014.

Henneberry lives in Langley with his wife Lauren and their toddler son Maddox.
