Given a second crack at the team which had beaten them earlier, the Langley Titans took advantage of the opportunity, winning when it mattered the most.
The peewee LY6 team edged Chilliwack 3-2 in the gold-medal game at the North Okanagan Knights peewee recreation tournament in Armstrong earlier this month (Jan. 19 to 21).
Chilliwack had defeated the Titans 6-4 earlier in the tournament, but that would be Langley’s only blemish over the five games they played in the three-day span.
The Titans opened the tournament with a decisive 10-2 win over Kamloops on day one.
The second day saw them split a pair of games, losing 6-4 to Chilliwack before bouncing back with a 5-3 win over Semiahmoo.
With a 2-1 pool-play record, Langley advanced to Sunday’s semifinal round where they doubled up Kelowna 4-2, setting up a rematch with Chilliwack for the gold medal later on that same day.
The Langley team members are Jake Bouchard, Carter Texeira, Dominick Bartha, Brian Nolan Bawtinheimer, Hayden Carmichael, Jacob Drummond, Chandler Hsieh, Sean Hsieh, Cole Hunter, Noah Hussain, Forrest Johnstone, Gurshaan Saini, Charles James (CJ) Thacker, Tyrian Thacker, Joel Zandbergen and Justin Zandbergen.
Charles Thacker, Ken Bouchard, John Johnstone and James Thacker make up the coaching staff while Carolyn Thacker is the team manager and Beverly Drummond and Bouchard are the team’s Hockey Canada Safety representatives.
