Wildcats head coach Terriann Carmichael was “super proud” of the “effort and grit” displayed by the Langley-based U16B Fraser Valley Ringette Association team, who took first in their age category at the Michelle Vandale Memorial Spirit of Winter Ringette Tournament on the weekend in Langley.
“They played the best they played all season,” said Carmichael.
Organizers said 61 teams from around the province attended the competition that ran from Friday Nov. 30 to Sunday, Dec.2 at three local rinks.

“It was a little bigger than last year,” said Theresa Leslie, one of the tournament volunteers.
“We get lots of compliments on how it’s run smoothly.”
It takes its name from Vandale, who passed away suddenly in 2009 at the age of 42, and used to coach youth ringette with the Fraser Valley Ringette Association.
To honour her memory, her name was added to the already-existing Spirit of Winter ringette tournament.
In the other tournament divisions, the Surrey White Rock Shooters finished first in the Masters, while the St. Albert Selects won in the U19A category.
In U16A play, gold was won by the Vandettas of the Vancouver Ringette association, top honors in U14A went to the Greater Vernon Ringette Association’s Venom and the and the GVRA Voltage won U14B.
