Fraser Valley Fusion 2002A’s Mya Galbraith was named the recipient of the 2018 U16A Canadian National Fastpitch Championship Tournament MVP — Top Player Award in Winnipeg, Man.
There were 20 of Canada’s top teams playing in the tournament, which ran Aug. 15 to 19, and Galbraith was chosen as MVP out of approximately 260 players.
“Mya is a player that had an outstanding tournament, she is an amazing athlete and made a lot of great plays,” said Softball Canada Director Jackie Dugger, who presented the award.
Galbraith, who is from Langley, had a strong tournament, playing six games in the round robin to help her team to a 4-2 record and a birth in the playoffs.
In the round robin, Galbraith played three games as catcher, two games at third base and one game as the designated player.
Galbraith achieved a batting average of .579, an on-base percentage of .652 with eight singles, three doubles, seven runs batted in, eight runs scored with four base on balls. Galbraith also displayed strong defence with a fielding percentage of .979 with 26 put-outs.
“To cap off a great season filled with several medals was our team captain winning the 2018 U16A Canadian National Fastpitch Championships Tournament MVP,” said Fusion 2002A’s Head Coach Jeff Donegan.
“Congrats Mya Galbraith and congrats to the entire Fusion 02 team. It’s been an honour to coach you this year and while it wasn’t in the cards this year I feel a national championship won’t be to far off for these girls.”
Always humble, Mya Galbraith commented, “I wish they had thirteen smaller versions of this trophy so that I could share them with my teammates.
“It was only through the work of my teammates that this award would have been possible.”
