Langley Junior Blaze earn split with Eagles

Langley's Ring throws one-hit shutout

Colby Ring threw a gem, allowing just one hit and striking out nine over six innings in a 2-0 victory for the Langley Junior Blaze over the Victoria Junior Eagles.

The game was part of a doubleheader played Saturday afternoon at Victoria’s Lambrick Park.

Kyle Pfeifer would relieve Ring for the seventh, earning the save thanks to a strikeout and double play.

The offence came courtesy of Mack Berry, who was hit by a pitch in the third inning to score Brett Jackson and an RBI double from Daniel Martin in the fifth inning, which scored Jayden Knight.

The Blaze were not able to complete the sweep, however, as they dropped a 6-5 decision.

Langley had scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning with Mack Berry and Trevor Alcos hitting back-to-back doubles to even the score at six.

But in the bottom half of that inning, the Eagles plated the winning run.

Brayden Cameron also had an RBI in the loss.

Justin Lanigan was tagged with loss, allowing six runs — but just two of those earned — over six innings.

The Blaze (10-5) are back in action on June 1 as they visit the Coquitlam Redlegs at Mundy Park.
