The final regular-season standings were decided in the Cowichan Women’s Football League last weekend, with Moo’s Law moving into second place after beating Blue Steel 22-13 on Sunday afternoon.
Law quarterback Jaimie Olson led her team with two touchdowns and two rouges, while Rachel Hastings added the other score and Tanya Green and Wendy Charles had converts. On defence, Sara Tweten had a sack and Nicki Flynn had an interception. The victory put the Law into second place behind the defending champion Ravens with a 6-4 record. Blue Steel can still match that record with a win in Friday’s regular-season finale, but the Law hold the head-to-head tiebreaker.
The Ravens defeated the Crew on Sunday morning, while the Winter Trucking Storm quieted the Wild 31-0. Caitlin Erickson paced the Storm with three touchdowns, including a pick-six, Annie Zurrer also turned an interception into a major, and Jennifer Elliott scored an offensive touchdown. Julie Martin added a convert for the Storm and Shelbie Paddle had a sack. Ginette Bilina led the Wild defence with a pair of sacks.
The Storm lost on Friday night to the Blue Steel by a 34-19 final score. The teams battled back and forth until Blue Steel took over for good in a frantic fourth quarter. Rachel Bakker and Heidi Haslam each scored twice for Blue Steel, Mila Main had one touchdown and a two-point convert, and Michelle Nederlof had a single-point convert, while Britt Stinson came up big on defence with three sacks in the fourth quarter. Kat Waldron had two touchdowns and a convert for the Storm and Rachel Paddle had one major, while Jennifer Elliott had an interception and her daughter, Alexis, added a sack.
The other Friday night game saw the Law defeat the Wild 32-12. Wendy Charles had two touchdowns for the Wild, while Olson, Daneve Mackie and Bryn Piper had one apiece and Kim Scafe added two converts. Scafe and Pattie Atkinson had interceptions and Mackie added a sack.
The two games this Friday night will have no impact on the final standings before playoffs begin on Sunday.
