Courtenay lawn bowlers have had a busy two weeks.

At the Anderton Nursery Triples on May 18-19, 84 bowlers took to our fantastic green. We had two teams with four wins,  so a playoff was necessary to determine a winner. Brenda and Wayne Edwards with Bill Mills of Parksville went to the last bowl of best-of-three ends to win against Rob and Eileen Milsom of Powell River with Maureen Hanright of Qualicum.

Then we had three teams with no losses, but three wins and a tie:  Stu and Jan MacNaughton with Jim Muir of Parksville,  Archie and Linda Harris with Melie Ursulom of Courtenay and Pat and Gwen Kelly with Patti Barlow also of Parksville.  Thanks to Anderton Nursery for their sponsorship of this event. It was a great two days with weather variations to keep us on our toes.  Good food, too,  Thanks Boneys and Marcia and all.

May 11-12 saw Vern Greenhill, Rick Quibell, Mary Mullins and Melie Ursulom place third  at the Qualicum 4’s with three wins and a tie while the Pete Harding team missed out on the prizes with three wins and one loss. These tournaments are tough!

Also on the schedule were the Senior Games Zone 2 playdowns. Courtenay ladies’ pair  Pat Cutt and Irene Whitehouse were successful in their bid for the Kamloops trip while Peter Harding and John Kendall had a long day with three games to triumph in men’s pairs.  The mixed fours playdown is yet to be played.

Locally,  the Mens and Ladies Club championships go into the second week as does the Wednesday Triples and the evening Singles. The Webber started May 23.

See you on the green.  Newcomers are still welcome.
