Parksville Lawn Bowling Club is ready to roll for important fundraiser

PARKSVILLE — From the desk of Carol Bucyk a reminder the Parksville Lawn Bowing Club will be hosting an important fundraiser on Wednesday.

“The Shades of Pink Tournament is held by our club annually, and its main purpose is to make life easier for cancer patients and their families, and to raise awareness to the importance of screening and early detection,” said Bucyk, explaining the women lawn bowlers of the club dress in pink for this event, while the men set up the greens for play, “then wear beautifully stitched pink aprons to serve lunch to the female players later in the day.”

There will be 16 triples teams (48 women) playing in the tournament, which will see volunteers for the Canadian Cancer Society PV/QB Unit for Support Programs in attendance to open the tournament by rolling the first bowl.

Spectators are welcome to come down to the club and watch.  The tournament is for club members only, however anyone can be involved in the fight against cancer by calling the PV/QB Unit at 250-752-3222.

Events begin with complimentary coffee by Starbucks. at 7:30 a.m., and a Zumba dance warm-up happens at 8 a.m. on the green. The games being at 9 a.m., lunch is at 12:30 p.m., and  action resumes at 1:30 with the trophy and prizes to be presented around 3:30 p.m.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun and is for a very worthy cause,” said Bucyk.
