Leafs fall 5-2 in Grand Forks

The Nelson Leafs had their five-game winning streak snapped following a 5-2 loss to the Border Bruins on Friday night.

The game started well for the Nelson Leafs, but in the end it was the Grand Forks Border Bruins who skated away with a 5-2 victory on Friday night.

The loss snapped the Leafs winning streak at five games.

Nelson popped in two goals in the first period, courtesy of Travis Wellman and Brandon Sookro to take a 2-0 lead after one period.

However, despite firing 47 shots at Bruins netminder Dominic Stadnyk, that was all the scoring for the locals that night.

Grand Forks scored five unanswered goals, four in the second period and one in the third, to win the contest.

Bruins goal scorers included Jackson Purvis and Connor Gross with two each and Max Newton with one.

Nelson netminder Adam Maida allowed four goals on 28 shots in two periods of play while back up Brad Rebagliati allowed one goal on 11 shots in 20 minutes of action.

Nelson will attempt to start a new winning streak when the local boys return home to take on the Spokane Braves on Sunday afternoon. The game takes place at the Nelson and District Community Complex and the puck drops at 2:30 p.m.
