Familiar faces scored in the Leafs’ pre-season opener but there’s no shortage of new players as Nelson continues its roster overhaul.
Sawyer Hunt scored twice and Jack Karran had a single for the Leafs, who tied the Border Bruins 3-3 in Grand Forks on Sunday.
The first game of exhibition play came after the team made several roster moves last week.
Goaltender Josh Williams has re-signed with the Leafs after playing Junior A last season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Williams made a brief appearance for Nelson during in 2015-16 with three regular season games and three more in the playoffs.
The Leafs also acquired defenceman Jordan Popoff from the North Okanagan Knights for a player development fee, while shipping forward Cooper Schroder to the Spokane Braves for a player development fee.
Popoff had two assists in 35 games last season for the Knights. Schroder meanwhile had five assists in 18 appearances last season.
Other signings included: G Quinn Yeagher; D Michael Bladon; D Austin Canete; and F David Sanchez.
Nelson plays its next exhibition game Wednesday at Castlegar. The Leafs open the regular season Sept. 8 at home to the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
