Brent Headon will be back in a Nelson Leafs’ jersey for the upcoming season.
The Leafs re-acquired the defenceman this week from the Fernie Ghostriders in exchange for the rights to forward Colum McGauley, who declined to attend the team’s training camp.
Headon, a six-foot-one, 185-pound native of Grand Prairie, Alta., had one goal, four assists and 154 penalty minutes in 39 regular season games with Nelson last season. The 19 year old also had one goal in seven playoff games.
After the season, Nelson sent Headon to the 100 Mile House Wranglers as part of a previous deal that brought forward Alex Meeker to the Leafs. Headon was then in turn traded to Fernie and returned to Nelson, all without ever switching jerseys.
The Leafs open exhibition play Aug. 27 on the road against the Grand Forks Border Bruins. Their first game at home is Sept. 1 against Beaver Valley before opening the season Sept. 8 at home to the Nitehawks.
