After an ammonia leak in the centre’s refrigeration plant in February 2019 threatened to shut down curling in Nelson for good, curling enthusiasts from all corners of the Kootenays banded together to find the funding needed to replace the refrigeration system and to keep curling alive.
Thanks to the efforts of various organizations they were successful and a new cooling plant was installed.
The Nelson Curling Centre and its members couldn’t be more excited for this revival and would like to ensure that the sport will continue to be enjoyed for generations to come. In an effort to bring awareness to curling as sport for all ages, you are invited to a Learn to Curl clinic.
On Jan. 18, the NCC is holding the clinic at 302 Cedar St. from 4 to 7 p.m. The entry fee is $10 and includes rentals, instruction and post-game pizza and beverages. Come enjoy an introduction to this classically Canadian sport. Register at nelsoncurling.ca.
