Nelson’s Leo Grypma has advanced to the next stage of qualifying for the CrossFit Games.

Grypma, a coach at Power By You (PBY), finished 62nd out of 26,000 people in his age division after five mentally and physically gruelling weeks of the CrossFit Open.

During this time the PBY community hosted a Friday Night Lights competition open to anyone who wanted the opportunity to test their fitness against the entire CrossFit world.

With the largest turnout to date for this style of event, members tuned in to the CrossFit games website every Thursday to see just what test of fitness would come up for the Friday night workout. And then, with only 24 hours to spare, tried to mentally prepare for the challenge to come.

The tests are never the same and the movements are a mix of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic exercises completed when all the work is done or when the time expires.

With age groups and scaled options available the workout is universal and doable by any who chose to participate. Members of the PBY community took on this challenge and tried to improve from previous years or take that big first step and compete for the first time. With a competition like this it takes people through every emotion imaginable and this year again there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears left to clean up.

In the end regardless of placing, members grew as human beings, understanding that the end result is the effort and not the placing. How you approach these challenges and how you react to failure will carry over to everything else you do in your life.

Congrats to the members who competed, supported and were involved in PBY’s Friday Night Lights.
