Abbotsford native Nathan Lieuwen has been named the Canadian Hockey League’s goalie of the week.

Lieuwen, 19, backstopped the Kootenay Ice to a stunning sweep of the top-seeded Saskatoon Blades in the WHL Eastern Conference semifinals. He stopped all 22 Blades shots in a 3-0 victory in Game 3 last Tuesday, and made 35 saves in the series-clinching 5-2 win on Wednesday.

Lieuwen has been the top goaltender in the WHL playoffs after two rounds of action, with an 8-2 record, a 1.96 goals against average and .930 save percentage.

The Ice now face the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Eastern Conference final, beginning Friday in Medicine Hat.
