Swimmers from the Liquid Lightning Swim Club hit the road for Kamloops and Edmonton mid December for their last competitions of 2014.
At the JP Fiset International Meet Dec. 11 to 14 in Edmonton, Lightning set 22 personal bests and 10 club records.
Bree Cooper, 17, led the way swimming all best times including a 1:02.95 in the 100 metre butterfly breaking Christina Russo’s mark from 2013 to take the bronze medal. Cooper won the gold medal in the 100-m. breaststroke with 1:11.11, a senior national qualifying time and earned a second senior national time and a silver medal in the 50 breast.
Craig Mathieson, 16, was rewriting the club record books swimming a 24.87 in the 50-m. freestyle, breaking the 25 second mark and his own club record. Mathieson also took out Alex Diaz’s club record in the 100 free, Scott Andreen’s mark in the 50-m. backstroke, and his own records in the 50 breast, 100 breast, 200 breast and 50 fly. He made A finals in the 100 breast, 50 breast and the 50 free.
Jessica Forbes, 16, swam in the A final of the 100 fly to finish eighth.
Gabrielle Hanvold, 15, swam to Western qualifying times in the 100 m and 200 fly events and made B finals in the 50, 100 and 200 fly.
Brock Hoel. 13 swam to a personal best 2:29.30 in the B final in the 200 back.
Bryce Molder, 16, swam all best times.
At the MJB Ice Classic Dec.. 12 to 14 in Kamloops, Lightning swimmers recorded 126 best times and set two club records.
Kyra McNulty, 15, swam 30.18 in the 50 metre back, good for a silver medal and breaking Haley Pipher’s club record from 2009.
In the boys 10 and under division, Pierson Piche, 10, won the 200-m. individual medley, the 100 fly, and the 50 m backstroke. He took over 10 seconds off his 200 back with a 2:46.30 to break his own club record. Piche also bettered his time in the 400 IM by 39 seconds.
Christina Russo, 19, won the gold medal in the 100 fly.
Megan Allan, 12, took four seconds off her 200 fly to win the bronze medal. Allan swam eight best times over the meet.
Kate Aguiar, 21, swam to a best time in the 200 breast to win the bronze medal.
Liz Aguiar, 17, swam six best times including a 1:19.15 in the 100 breast to take the bronze medal.
Alex Strobel, 11, took over six seconds her 200 fly for a second AAA time to qualify for AAA provincials in March in Surrey.
Sara Roggeveen, 15, shaved four seconds off her 200 free to punch her ticket to short course AA Championships in Chilliwack in February.
Christina Wright, 13, also qualified for AAs with a 2:27.45 in the 200 free.
Angelina Barkley, 12, swam all best times including a new AA time standard in the 50 back. She took 13 seconds off her 200 free.
Madison Wudrich, 11, went eight for 10 in best times including taking over seven seconds off her 50 fly for a AA qualifying time.
Taylor Smith, 11, swam 14 best times over the weekend, including taking 10 seconds off her 200 fly for a AA qualifying time.
Victoria Koehle, 11, swam all best times including taking eight seconds off her 200 IM.
At her first regional meet Paige Allan, 10, went eight for nine in best times, including taking 17 seconds off her 100 breast.
Other swimmers with big drops in their best times were sisters Rowan and Ashlinn Salverda. Rowan took 10 seconds off her 200 free, while Ashlinn lopped 11 seconds off her 100 IM.
Georgia Pengilly and Jacklyn Pengilly missed 100 per cent club by one swim.
