Former Vancouver Canucks captain is returning for the second annual Valley First Granfondo Axel Merckx Okanagan.
The announcement was made this morning. Linden finished 38th overall in the Granfondo (160-kilometre) category in 2011.
“Last year’s event in Penticton was tremendous, and I’m looking forward to testing myself again this July in the heart of the Okanagan,” said Linden.
Joining Linden is Hollywood actor, Ethan Suplee, who’ll ride in the Granfondo category for the first time. Suplee has played in movies such as Remember the Titans and American History X, and more recently in the TV show, My Name is Earl. Over the last few years, he has shed close to 200 pounds and credits his weight loss to cycling.
“I had never heard of the Okanagan before I met Axel,” said Suplee in a statement. “I will be holding onto Axel’s wheel for dear life. Hopefully he knows some shortcuts.”
A statement released by VFGFAMO also stated the event has added a third ride category, the 55-km Cortofondo, for those starting out in the sport. As well, the start/finish area will be concentrated around Gyro Park.
