The Little Tex Outlaws shaded the AF Blazers 3-2 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Division 1 play Tuesday night at Marshall Field #4.
Jenny Hatten opened the scoring for the 4-4-1 Blazers by curving in a corner. Jeruscha Bahmuller stripped the Little Tex defence and scored a rocket from 25 yards.
The Outlaws (5-2-2) rallied in the second half against the subless Blazers, with Stacy Cover, Anita Rae and Jasmine Whitling combining on the first goal, with Whitling finishing nicely.
Mary Bennett crossed to Whitling for the equalizer, while Fahn Hastie supplied the winner off a through ball from Whitling, named the Little Tex Lady of the Match.
Making a special guest appearance, Sherrie Weeks put on a pink Blazer jersey for the first time in six seasons and dominated on the back line along with Amber Maltman and Emma Rimmer.
Dr. Lee’s Dental stopped the North Enderby Timber Celtics 3-0 at Marshall #5.
The Floss crew (7-2) opened the scoring on a first-half scramble by Leah Frye after a corner from Ally Dodds.
The Celtics (4-4-1) started the second half strong, but failed on their chances. Dr. Lee’s made it 2-0 on a great run by Delinah Erbenich, who fed Frye, who used her body to bury the ball.
Jacquie Hansen capped the scoring on a lovely cross from Irene Arrotta. The TSN turning point was a marvellous save by Lisa Arrotta off the head of teammate Lori Shippy.
Glenn Power turned back Vernon Wrap Zone 6-1 in Salmon Arm. Carol Ann Bourdon scored for the first-year Wrap Zone (0-9).
In Masters play, Vicky Ryan returned from work commitments in Penticton to spark the Longhorn Impact’s 2-0 win over the Controllers at Marshall #3.
The feisty Ryan ruled the midfield and set up the speedy Impact forwards. Nancy Nichols, at left wing, set up striker Lauren Harris for both her goals. Derri Ann Cooper filled in nicely for keeper Julie Hamer to record the shutout.
Suzie Andrews stepped up as sweeper and enjoyed a solid match as the league-leading Impact improved to 8-0. The Controllers fell to 3-5-1.
The Controllers had the early edge, but were denied many opportunities as Cooper devoured everything inside the 18.
Late in the half, Harris turned sweeper Jody Pope inside out before drilling a 15-yarder past Mickey Templeton.
Jenny Currie’s run down the right side in the first half was the best chance for the Controllers, with her shot just missing the far side.
Harris delivered another fine effort 15 minutes into the second half, looking very much like U.S. Olympian Alex Morgan.
Jacquie Nuyens, Shawn Yargeau, Michele Wernicke, Michelle Mercer and flu-ridden Sena Bishop were solid at midfield for the Controllers (4-4-1).
North Okanagan United and Rosters battled to a 3-3 draw at Marshall #2.
Shelley Henry showed amazing patience as she buried a low shot moments after she shanked on a glorious chance, totally missing the net.
Carly Bibby netted the second NOU goal on a ferocious shot, hard and high. Henry completed the NOU offence on a high blast up and over keeper Karen Benn’s head.
Becky McLennan (2) and Jodi Schwartz countered for Rosters, who got several fabulous saves from Benn.
Seasons Sistas bowed 3-0 to Setters Pub of Salmon Arm at Marshall #1.
Sherry Wiebe played a strong two-way game for Sistas, who trailed 1-0 at the half.
Keeper Wendy Nadeau, who’s learning the position on the fly, played her best game of the year, while strikers Wendy Kowalchuk and Wendy Horner created some nifty scoring chances.
Tammy Buick moved from defence to forward and used her wheels to gain two breakaways. Sistas dipped to 0-8.
