Mike Lloyd pulled the hat trick as Kal Tire grounded the Silver Stars 4-2 in Okanagan Oldtimers 50+ Soccer League play Thursday night at MacDonald Park.
Lloyd finished off a passing play involving Bob Fleming and Kevin Mitchell by fighting off two defenders and tiptoeing around keeper Ray Tims for his third tally.
Denis Chabot fed Lloyd for a pair of first-half breakaways that resulted in low blasts by keeper Dave Gould.
Jenne Huberts netted the goal of the night for Kal Tire when he touched the sky and hammered in a header off a scorching corner by Fleming, who earned the Grasshoppers Lawn & Garden Care Man of the Match.
Rob Ross of the Stars opened the scoring when he beat keeper Roger Irving after a nifty pass from speedy John Matejka.
Swiss product Felix Heinrich nodded in a Stars’ cross past his keeper Irving for an own goal.
Sunterra Custom Homes Sistas brushed back the OMG Chick Kickers 4-1 in Division 2 women’s soccer Thursday night at Marshall Field #4.
It was 1-0 Sistas at the break after Deanna Baker put one in off an Andrea Zubot corner. The Chicks tied it up in the second half with a beautiful cross and header.
After that, Sistas turned up the heat and made several rushes with lots of crossbar action. Sunterra pulled ahead again when Kim Sylvester placed one in on a feed from Baker.
Becky Birbilis had some sweet shots on net without any luck, but drew assists on a goal by Jennie Currie and Baker’s second of the game. Suzyn August made some stellar saves for Sistas.
Newbie Morgan Zoethout fashioned the hat trick as Capri Insurance clipped the Green Rockets 4-3 at Marshall #2.
