Local figure skaters earn impressive gold distinctions

Members of Juan de Fuca Skating Club awarded with Skate Canada gold test medals

Members from the Juan de Fuca Skating Club were recently awarded medals from Skate Canada.

Moira Baker, Robyn Troyer and Bryanne Thomson were just three of 10 skaters that received recognition and recently showed off their medals at the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre.

The other recipients included Cloe Bernard, Heather Robertson, Metea Marr, Kaylin Cound, Nina Kovacik, Makayla Carlton, Keisha Huchzermyer, Le Vu, and Jordyn Holm.

Bernard, Robertson and Marr received gold test medals for interpretive. Marr, Robertson and Barker received gold for dance while Cound, Kovacik, Carlton, Thomson, Troyer and Vu received gold for skills. Freeskate gold test recipients were Marr, Huchzermyer and Holm.

Barker started figure skating when she was nine while Thomson and Troyer said they both started around six years old to get where they are now. The girls recently competed at the Super Series Autumn Leaves competition in Chilliwack and will also take part in the Super Series B.C. Section Championships in Parksville and the Vancouver Inter club competition in Mill Bay. For more information about the JDF Skating Club, go to juandefucaskatingclub.ca.
