Abbotsford-based Twisters Gymnastics hosted their 16th annual Invitational at Abbotsford’s Exhibition Park last weekend. Close to 600 athletes participated, including some from as far away Yellowknife. The event started Thursday evening with the interclub meet. Sixty-three recreational athletes competed. Competitive competition ran Friday morning through Sunday afternoon featuring 118 men’s athletes and 372 female athletes, ranging in age from four to 22 years old. Chilliwack had four athletes perform well. On the women’s artistic side, Lauren Almos competed in the Kip-2 division (8-10 years old). Almos came up with a silver on the floor and bronze on vault, bars and beam to place third overall. Ella Palmer (Kip 2, 5-7 years old) produced gold on the bars and silver on vault, beam and floor to place second all-round. Competing in the provincial-three Tyro division, Jessica Gibson won gold on the beam and floor. On the men’s artistic side, Zachary Clay was the only competitor in the junior division. He received an excellent score of 81.850, qualifying him to compete at Nationals in Charlottetown, PEI, in May.
