Local soccer players make B.C. teams

Felipe Vieira and Nate Trampleasure were both named to the provincial U-14 boys’ team, while Liam Pukila was named to the U-16 boys’ squad.

A handful of local soccer players have qualified for the 2012 B.C. provincial soccer team Phase 1 player selections.

B.C. Soccer selected squads of 72 male and 72 female players this week at the U-13 through U-16 age groups, with players coming from Victoria, Comox Valley, Thompson Okanagan, Fraser Valley, and the Lower Mainland.

Midfielders Felipe Vieira of Maple Ridge and Nate Trampleasure were both named to the provincial U-14 boys’ team, while defenceman Liam Pukila of Maple Ridge was named to the U-16 boys’ squad.

Phase one of the B.C. Soccer Provincial Teams Program includes an initial training session from April 3 to 11, where the teams will prepare for the U-13 and U-14 regionals in Winnipeg, and the U-15 and U-16 nationals in Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia in July.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC will be partnering with the B.C. Soccer Provincial Teams Program to evaluate and assess players for potential selection into the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Residency and the Girls’ Elite Program.
