Led by captain and team MVP award-winner Rupert Peers, the Fraser Vally West U16 boys rugby team placed third at B.C. regional rugby championships earlier this month at the University of B.C.

The Fraser Valley West squad took bronze in the round-robin tournament, narrowly edging Fraser Valley East in a tie-breaker.

Peers, an Elgin Park Secondary student, was one of three South Surrey players on the Fraser Valley West roster, joining Earl Marriott’s Colton Killoran and Southridge School’s Gordon Dobson, who was named the team’s most improved player.

The tournament was won by the Vancouver Island Tide, who edged Vancouver North 12-5 in the final round-robin match, and finished with a tournament-best 27 points.

Overall, nine teams took part in the event.
