The 2016 BC Winter Games in Penticton are just six weeks away and local athletes are busy qualifying to represent their respective sports for Zone 6 (Vancouver Island-Central Coast).
In 2014, the Zone 6 athletes brought home 54 medals from the games in Mission.
They’ll look to earn more hardware this time around, as athletes aged nine to 40 will compete in events such as ice hockey, curling, skiing, badminton, archery and more.
There will be up to 2,120 athletes, coaches and officials converging on Penticton for the 2016 games, with support from more than 2,500 volunteers.
This marks the second time Penticton has hosted the games (previously in 1990).
