Longhorn Impact topple TED United

Longhorn Impact ground TED United 3-1 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division play Tuesday in Salmon Arm.

Facing monster puddles all over the field, the Longhorn Impact and TED United splashed one another in a soccer showdown Tuesday night at the Salmon Arm Savings Credit Union Park.

Super striker Lauren Harris scored a deuce and roadrunner Janelle Smithson added one as the Impact tripped up United 3-1 in North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division play.

The Impact improved to 11-0, while second-place Salmon Arm dropped to 8-1-1.

Dawn Lemiski fed Harris for the first goal, before United’s Kyla Sherman equalized. The game was level for 10 minutes before Jodi Hawthorne passed to Smithson, who hugged the ball into her chest, dropped it to her foot and finished for the winner.

Harris weaved her way through the puddles and provided the clincher.

Minda Chittenden kept pace with United phenom Tricia Martin in the centre midfeld, while bold efforts came from Bree Pickett, at sweeper, and Myra Mcewan, up front.

Derri Ann Cooper was very competent in net, even with the ball stopping at the drop of a dime in an eight-inch swamp. Outside fullback Lisa Boer went swimming on a challenge and came up with the ball.

Sistas tie up Rosters

The Seasons Sistas and Rosters drew 4-4 in a highly entertaining match at Marshall #1.

The Sistas netted their opening goal when Sherrie Wiebe took a corner and a subsequent shot on net came from newbie Diane Neudorf. Andy Zubot headed in the rebound.

Neudorf went on to score two goals while Weibe used her wheels to split the defence and finish low corner.

With no subs, the defence of Bobbie Catt, Juanita Goodfellow, Bridget Frick and Darlene Toews played the hard-charging Rosters tough. The Sistas are 1-8-1 and getting better by the game.

Rookie keeper Sue MacKinnon played well for Rosters (1-6-3), who were missing some key midfielders but still enjoyed plenty of chances.

Rosters’ first goal came from a heroic effort by calendar girl Andrea Southam after a three-player pile up in front of the Sistas net. Southam was the first to scramble to her feet and kicked one in to the empty net.

Striker Deanna Baker supplied a pair of beauties and moved the ball deep all night, while Southam added another. Jody Swartz was outstanding in the midfield along with Daralee Morris. Kerry VanSickle returned to the field after a three-year absence and looked great on the right wing.

Kickers draw Setters

The Chick Kickers also fought the puddles as they gained a 1-1 draw with host Salmon Arm Setters Pub.

Setters (6-3-2) scored first on a long run minutes after the opening kickoff.

After that, the Chick Kickers (5-1-4) ruled most of the play with Mel Jacobs, Michelle Johnson and Jen Sorochuk having their shots halted by puddles.

Robyn Sherwood was firm in net and the back four of Colline Johnson, Marlilyn VanderDeen, Elisha Kitton and Red Robin Lady of the Match Shawna Duncan-Stenquest, was rock-solid.

With only nine minutes to go, roadrunner Kelly Challen scored a beautiful equalizing goal.

United slips past Merlot

North Okanagan United warmed up for Funtastic Summer Festival bartending duties by clipping the Shuswap Merlot 4-3 at Marshall #2.

Carly Bibby bagged a deuce, one on a gorgeous volley after a cross by Carla Gibson, as NOU improved to 3-4-4. Gibson and Sarah Kwantes, with the sweet winner, completed the offence.

Keeper Dar Wiebe came out hard to challenge the 3-4-3 Merlot attackers.

In Division 1 action, Stephanie Wilson and Delinah Erbenich each scored once and assisted on another as Dr. Lee’s Dental bounced the AF Blazers 5-2 at MacDonald Park.

Lori Shippy, on a header, Kim Teichman, on a breakaway, and Leah Frye, on a scramble, added singles for the Floss Crew (9-2). Lisa Arrotta posted her ninth win in net.

Ali Clarke, from Jen Hatten, and Hailey Woon, off a beautiful Jane Sutton corner, replied for the Blazers (4-5-2).

Sutton and Amber Maltman had solid games in the middle for the Blazers.

NET unravels Wrap Zone

The North Enderby Celtics iced the ever-improving Wrap Zone 4-0 at Marshall #5.

NET’s first goal came from a great run down the left wing from feisty Kirman Nijjar, who dribbled deep into the 18 and fed an unmarked Jen Siegmueller, who calmly finished.

Nijjar then made a similar speedy run down the right before crossing the ball to a streaking Megan Smith, who showed composure in heading it bottom corner.

The Celtics went up 3-0 on a heads-up play from Tanya Nijjar, who intercepted a goal kick from 30 yards, took a one touch and hammered the ball past the scrambling keeper.

NET (5-4-2) put veteran superstar Ashley Krause up front in the second half, and Krause took a pass from the midfield just outside the 18, turned and effortlessly chipped several defenders as well as the out-stretched keeper for the final goal.
