A five-game winless streak has knocked the Surrey Rebels out of a playoff position in the West Coast Junior Lacrosse League standings. With a 4-10-2 (won-lost-tied) record, the Rebels are one point behind the eighth place Port Coquitlam Saints. Surrey has four games to play, while the Saints still have six contests left on their schedule. The only point earned by Surrey in the past two weeks was a 9-9 tie in West Vancouver Thursday with the North Shore Indians, a team with just one victory on the season. North Shore lost to the Rebels 12-4 a week before earning the tie. Max Richards led the Surrey scoring with three goals. Eamon Butler and Kyle Clarke tallied twice each, with James Main and Brandon Baldo notching singles. Last Sunday (June 19), the Rebels were beaten 14-6 by the Port Coquitlam Saints. Conor Campbell with two goals, Richards, Butler, Mat Cruickshank and David Goodwin accounted for the Surrey offence. A day later, Surrey dropped the first of two consecutive one-goal games, rallying from two goals down only to lose 7-6 to the Richmond Roadrunners Monday night in the Cloverdale Arena. The Rebels got two goals each from Butler, Cruickshank and Brad Olson. The Rebels rallied again Wednesday night in Maple Ridge. They trailed 9-1 midway through the game, but dominated the rest of the contest only to lose 10-9. Olson, Cruickshank and Campbell each netted a pair of goals, with singles coming from Richards, John McBride and Ryan Millen. The winless streak reached five games Saturday night at Queen’s Park Arena, as the Rebels lost 13-5 to the New Westminster Salmonbellies. Cody Gough netted his first three goals of the season for Surrey, with Butler and Millen completing the scoring.
