The years of sacrifice and hard work have resulted in a life-long dream for a local athlete.
Langley’s Dorothy Ludwig shot her way to the gold medal in women’s 10-metre air pistol shooting at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico.
And in addition to the first-place finish, the 32-year-old Ludwig qualified to represent Canada at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
“I’ve been shooting for over 18 years and you commit a lot of time and make a lot of sacrifices in order to maintain the training and the discipline that you need in order to compete at an international level,” she said.
“It’s hard work, but it’s worth it in the end.
“I’ve been trying to get to this point for a number of years now, so if feels good to be here.”
Ludwig’s score of 476.8 was only 0.1 ahead of the silver medalist, Maribel Pineda from Venezuela.
