The Lumby Midget Stars are a classic hockey squad on home ice.
For the second straight year, the Stars captured their own Monashee Classic tournament, and went undefeated in six games for the second year in a row.
Weekend highlights for the Stars saw Jordyn Prior score her first-ever goal; Paige McLaughlin got her first goal as a Star; and goalie Tyra Cunningham played 2.5 games without allowing a single goal against.
Every player for the Stars had a goal or an assist.
Game MVPs were Mia Maltman, Emma Roine, Kalen Webster, Josey Nerling, Jordyn Morris and Somer Snobelen. Teammates include Tyra Cunningham, Pryor, Tori Maltman, Nerling, Emily Romailler, Mia Maltman, Shaina Jones, Roine, Faith Seehaver, Josie Sexsmith, Kim Whitelaw, McLaughlin, Payton Kineshanko, Vanessa Yaremcio, Lily Fiset, Kendra Jones, Morris, Webster and Snobelen.
The Stars are coached by Jon Kineshanko, Chris Pryor, Bryan McLaughlin and Ali Roine.

Lumby Stars, sponsored by Great West Equipment, brought home the gold medal from a weekend tournament in Osoyoos.
The Stars opened Friday with an 8-0 win over Kelowna with James Wraight earning the shutout. Kolby English got the Stars on the scoreboard and finished with a pair of goals while game MVP Zachary Young, Quintin O’Neill and Tori Maltman each added 2+1. Ryder Quibell and Mia Maltman had three assists each with some sweet passing. Jace Catt had one helper; O’Neill received the team hard hat for hardest worker.
In an early contest Saturday, Lumby defeated Cloverdale 5-2. O’Neill took a beauty pass from Riley Dewhirst to tie the game 1-1, then added three more goals to earn MVP honours. Quibell had the other goal while Tori Maltman claimed the hard hat.
Wraight earned his second shutout of the tournament, and the hard hat, following an 8-0 win over Langley. Young had a hat trick, O’Neill added 2+2, Quibell 1+3, game MVP Dewhirst had a blast from the point find the back of the net, and Garret Louis dangled around players for a gorgeous snipe. Mia Maltman and Faith Seehaver had two assists each. Kolby English added great hustle and checking throughout the game.
Sunday, the Stars took on a very classy and skilled Grand Forks team and need a goal with one second left from Tori Maltman to secure a 7-6 win and a berth in the final.
O’Neill got the Stars on the score board first just 45 seconds after the puck drop. Quibell had a sweet pass from Catt to tie the game 2-2 to end the first period. Grand Forks led 4-2 at ice clean but the Stars rallied back with Quibell getting a quick goal and then Tori Maltman having a breakaway that tied the game up at the end of the second to make it 4-4.
Grand Forks came out strong with two quick goals for a 6-4 lead early in the third period. Down two with less than 10 minutes left, the ‘never-quit’ Stars got a goal from Quibell to make it 6-5, the O’Neill took a long pass from Young and beat the Grand Forks goalie with 2:48 left, setting the stage for Tori Maltman’s heroics. Maltman and Quibell shared the MVP honours, and Catt earned the hard hat.
The Stars faced a very strong passing team from Semiahmoo, near White Rock, in the final, and, again, used late heroics for the 3-2 win.
Game MVP O’Neill was unstoppable with a hat trick, and scored the game-winner with 10 seconds left in the third. Quibell had two assists and both Louis and Young picked up an assist each. Wraight had the win in net 3-2. All the Stars played their hearts out and never gave up. Tori Maltman received the hard hat for hardest worker. The whole team deserved the MVP this game.
