The L.V. Rogers Bombers capped their field hockey season with a 12th-place finish at the AA B.C. Provincial Championships last week in West Vancouver.
LVR opened the tournament with 3-1 loss to St. Michael’s University, a 7-0 loss to Shawnigan, and a 1-0 shutout against South Kamloops.
That put the Bombers in Tier 2, where positions nine to 16 were up for grabs.
In the Tier 2 quarter-finals against Brentwood, Gioia Valk scored with 90 seconds left to force a shootout. LVR scored on three of five shots and keeper Johanna Brochhagen stopped three shooters to give the Bombers a 3-2 win.
In the semifinal, Elle Schlegel scored for LVR but the Bombers injury struggles caught up to them and they fell 3-1 to G.W. Graham. That put the Bombers in a bronze-medal game, which they lost 2-0 to Glenlyon.
Brochhagen won the outstanding performance award for LVR, Emma Chirico took the unsung hero award for playing in all six games, Jessica McLeod had the greatest run award and Ella Peloso was named the team’s MVP.
