MacLeods get showdown

Isaac MacLeod earned bragging rights after his Boston College Eagles downed big brother Alex MacLeod’s Michigan Tech Huskies 3-2 in Detroit last Friday.

It was the first time the Nelson Minor Hockey graduates had the opportunity to play against each other at the NCAA level. Michigan Tech and Boston College  were part of the four-team Great Lakes Invitational that was played at the fabled Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

To get the match-up, both teams lost their opening round games to University of Michigan and Michigan State. Knocked down to the bronze medal game, it was the opportunity for the brothers to compete against each other.

The teams traded goals in the first period and the game remained tied until midway through the third when Boston College took the lead on a goal by Brian Dumoulin. With 29 seconds remaining in the game the Huskies thought they had scored the equalizer, but the goal was disallowed because of a high stick.

Isaac MacLeod is a sophomore defenceman with the Eagles who are currently ranked number three in the nation. Alex MacLeod is a forward and in his senior year with the Huskies who are enjoying their best season in the last three.
