The Lightning Creek Ski Club (LCSC) hosted teams from Smithers and Prince George for their annual Teck Race at Troll Ski Resort this weekend (Jan 26-27).
41 racers took part in the event, which is one of three Teck races held each year.
Racers shared the mountain with the Dog Sled Mail Run, which was held at the foot of the slopes, so there was quite a lot of activity from top to bottom.
The slopes received a couple centimetres of snow on the Friday, and the day was a sunny one.
“The base is really solid,” Michelle Klapatiuk, Race Administrator for LCSC, said of the ski conditions.
In between every few runs, volunteers could be seen plowing slowly down the course with their skis in a pizza slice stance
“There’s some good surface below the soft snow we got yesterday, so course workers have been slipping the snow, trying to clear off the course,” Klapatiuk added.
Maggie Beaudoin was Lightning Creek’s star of the day with four first-place finishes in the U12 Girls division.
The Woolend brothers also had an excellent weekend, with Caleb picking up a first-, second- and third-place finish and Noah clinching a first- and second-place finish, too.
