Main Camp set for Sept. 1-4

100 Mile House Junior B club preparing to defend titles

100 Mile House Wranglers Junior B Hockey Club is officially back to work and preparing for the upcoming 2016/17 season.

It’s a huge season for the Wranglers as they defend their title of being the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League, the British Columbia and the Western Canadian champions.

It’s a daunting task as there will be some big holes to fill in the lineup with three boys aging out from last year’s championship squad, with goalie Zane Steeves and Tavis Roch committed to other teams and a mitt full of boys attending Junior A camps.

Wranglers head coach and general manager Dale “Duner” Hladun has been a busy guy this summer and he is spending quite a bit of time on the road, scouting out the Junior A camps in hopes finding a few players who can fit into the Wrangler Nation model.

These would be team players, hard workers who are good on and off the ice.

Duner has already said he’s looking for the special players who are hard-nosed and want to earn a spot on a championship team.

The coach says some of last year’s players would be welcomed back if they can’t stay with a Junior A club.

That said, Main Camp starts at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre on Sept. 1-4.

Registration for main camp is at 1 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Two days of on-ice instruction and evaluation will be followed by two exhibition games against the Port Moody Panthers of the Pacific Junior Hockey League at the South Cariboo Rec. Centre. The first game is on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. and the second is on Sept. 4 at 1 p.m.

The Wranglers then travel to Lumby to take on the Revelstoke Grizzlies in an exhibition ride on Sept. 6, with the puck dropping at 7 p.m.

Hladun says he will have a better idea of who is going to make the team after he sees them in game situations
