Maple Ridge Ramblers bring home gold from Vancouver Island tourney

Brian Choi wins triple crown in U-16 A Division

The Maple Ridge Secondary School Rambler badminton team travelled to Victoria earlier this month for the Brentwood Bay Junior Invitational Badminton Tournament, coming home with a score of medals.

Leading the way was Brian Choi, who won the triple crown with three gold medals in the U-16 competition. Choi finished first in the A Division boys’ singles event, as well as the boys’ doubles, with Adam Zukor-Nizor, and mixed doubles, with Laura Escueta. Brother Jason Choi was first in the U-14 A Division boys’ doubles event, along with Ben Kim, and finished second in singles and mixed doubles, with Christina Woo.

Alison Lim was first in the U-19 A Division girls’ singles, as well as the doubles competition, with Shih-Yun Wang.

Jeren Liu also picked up a pair of golds, claiming first place in the U-16 girls’ singles and doubles, with Julia Park.

Other first place finishers include Simran Johar (U-14 C Division girls’ singles A Division doubles, B Division mixed doubles), Erica Magnaye (U-14 C Division girls’ singles), Ben Kim (U-14 B Division boys’ singles, B Division mixed doubles), Christina Woo (U-14 A Division girls’ doubles), Laura Escueta (U-16 B Division girls’ singles and doubles), Ben Hsieh (U-16 C Division boys’ doubles), Ryland Tinkham (U-16 C Division boys’ doubles), Julia Stanley (U-16 B Division girls’ doubles, and C Division mixed doubles), Adam Zubek-Nizol (U-16 C Division mixed doubles), Vinnu Aniyan (U-19 B Division boys’ singles), Kalum Skipper (U-19 C Division boys’ singles), Shih-Yun Wang (U-19 B Division girls’ singles), Christian Dumas (U-19 B Division boys’ doubles), Rachel Carrier (U-19 B Division girls’ doubles), Chanmi Oh (U-19 B Division girls’ doubles, mixed doubles), Ethan Stephens (U-19 B Division mixed doubles).
