Maple Ridge Rambler guard Max Neumann will be continuing his basketball career at the University of the Fraser Valley, after the signing with the Cascades this week.
Neumann averaged 21 points per game in his his senior year of AAA high school basketball with the Ramblers, while pulling down an average of seven rebounds and adding four assists.
UFV Cascades head coach Barnaby Craddock said the six-foot-three guard will have an opportunity to get significant minutes with the graduation of fourth-year guard Sheldon Bjorgaard.
“Max excelled this year at the Center of Performance program against the best guards in B.C, and with one of the best work ethics we have seen in a while we have high hopes for him at the university level,” said Craddock. “Max has had a fantastic Grade 12 season at Maple Ridge under the outstanding coaching of Ken Dockendorf. It’s a privilege to have such a talented and high quality young man chose to join our UFV Men’s basketball program.”
Neumann said he was excited to be playing close to home, and hopes to help the Cascades improve on their Canada West silver medal finish this season. The UFV Cascades were ranked fourth in the final Canadian Interuniversity Sport top ten poll. The Cascades participated in the CIS Final 8 national championship tournament in Halifax earlier this year, finishing fourth in Canada.
“I’m very excited to be playing for UFV in the coming years, and I think UFV is the perfect place to help me achieve my full potential,” said Neumann. “It’s great to stay home in the Fraser Valley and I hope to help UFV compete for a championship.”
Neumann will add to the local flavour of the Cascades, playing along side former Pitt Meadows secondary guard Spencer Evans.
