The Kitimat Marlins swim club hosted the Husky Market Invitational swim meet at the Sam Lindsay Memorial pool May 7-8.
With strong individual and relay results from the Marlins, the club was able to win the meet with probably the tightest margins in regional swim meet history.
A mere one point separated the Marlins and second place Prince Rupert Rapids swim club (a club which has more than twice the membership of the Marlins).
Marlins 10-under girls, 10-under boys, 12- under girls, 14-under girls and 15-over boys were able to win both the Medley and Freestyle relays.
On the individual side there were some great results with all 35 members competing at the meet achieving at least one personal best time.
Twelve swimmers that achieved the tough task of posting best times in all seven of their individual events were Robyn Alderman (14), Hannah Bilash (11), Paige Collier (13), Hayden Fisk (9) (Hayden also had the biggest one swim improvement for the meet with a 46 second improvement in the 100 metre freestyle), Makenna Fisk (11), Morgan Nichol (10), Katherine Ocsovai (12), Hannah Pearson (9), Dylan Pirrotta (16), Alivia Salema (10), Nolan Striker (9) and Madison Szmata (10).
The Marlins had a whopping eight swimmers who reached the podium for age group aggregate medals.
The gold medalists for the Marlins were in the 10-under girls Alivia Salema (10), 12-under girls Kleanza Cathers (11) (Kleanza also achieved her first AAA Provincial qualifying standard in the 11-under 200 backstroke the week before at a time trial), and 15-over girls Rachel Rice (15).
Silver medalists for the Marlins were 14-under girls Daphne Howell (13) and 15-over boys Arthur Firmino (17).
Bronze medalists for the Marlins were 12-under girls Danika Howell (12), 14-under girls Paige Collier (13) and 15-over boys Kyler Corderio (15).
