The Fulton Maroons brushed back the Valleyview Vikings 20-6 in Southern Interior High School Football League play Friday night in Kamloops.
Kyle Richardson scored on a 28-yard run, while Clayton Mottus caught a four-yard touchdown reception from Richardson. The other Fulton TD came on a two-yard ramble by Richardson.
Richardson also took the ball to the house for a two-point convert as Fulton improved to 2-1 in the senior AA league.
The VSS Panthers, coached by Sean Smith, were scheduled to battle the NorKam Saints in Kamloops, but the game was postponed due to numerous injuries on the Saints’ roster.
Richardson, meanwhile, carried the ball 10 times for 69 times, while Matt Parlee racked up 35 yards on eight touches and Mikey Ochoa recorded seven carries for 20 yards.
Richardson completed nine of 15 passes for 140 yards with one interception.
Mottus finished with two catches for 29 yards, while Ochoa hauled in two aerials for 33 yards, Clark Richardson made two catches for 26 yards and Marshall Kazemir had one 31-yarder.
On defence, Lucas Hofer led the Maroons with a dozen tackles, followed by Kyle Richardson with nine, Mark Wagner with six and Wes Liefke with three. Cody Lutes supplied one sack, while Adam Woods earned one pick and Devon Harris and Matt Eso produced fumble recoveries.
“This was a good win for our club,” said Fulton head coach Mike Scheller. “The game was tight and hard fought. Valleyview is a tough and physical team to play against, and as a coaching staff, we are happy with the way the boys accepted the challenge.
“We got a couple of turnovers early, deep in Viking territory, and we were opportunistic enough to score points. We got a 14-0 first-quarter lead, and the rest of the game was very even after that. We scored in the third on a nice passing series, and they scored late in the fourth quarter. I cannot say enough about the play of Kyle Richardson. He worked very hard all week to improve his play at QB, and he played great. His dedication was awesome to watch all week. As a linebacker, he made several key stops versus Valleyview’s option offence. DT Devon Harris was instrumental in the first turnovers of the game, and he was very solid.”
