Abbotsford’s Steve Marshall has been named to the Canadian senior men’s volleyball team for the upcoming FIVB World Championship in Poland.
Marshall, a 24-year-old left side who played four seasons at Trinity Western University (2008-2010, 2011-2013), cracked the 14-man roster and will suit up for Team Canada for the third time this summer. Earlier, he donned the red and white at the World League competition and the Pan American Cup.
The FIVB Men’s World Championship Poland 2014 features 24 teams and will take place from Aug. 30 to Sept. 21 with matches being held across six cities: Katowice, Lódz, Wroclaw, Gdansk, Bydgoszcz and Kraków.
Canada, currently ranked 15th in the world, is in Pool C, with Russia, Bulgaria, Egypt, China and Mexico. Canada’s first game will be against world number-two ranked Russians on Sept. 1, followed by No. 8 Bulgaria on Sept. 3, No. 17 Egypt on Sept. 5, No. 22 Mexico on Sept. 6 and No. 19 China on Sept. 7.
