Hope’s Doug Marshall, and his Chilliwack rink of Lisa Deputan, Darren Jarvis and Janet Klebe captured the 2011 Williams Moving & Storage BC Mixed Curling Championship title in Prince Rupert this past weekend.
Marshall, who lives in Hope, but plays out of Chilliwack, finished on top of the field with a 6-1 round-robin record earning a direct spot into Saturday’s final, where they would eventually face Duncan’s Wes Craig rink. Marshall scored singles in the first four ends to lead 4-0. The teams traded deuces in the 5th and 6th ends, and Craig took a single in the 7th. With a 3 point lead and hammer advantage, Marshall made a triple take-out to score five points in the 8th end and seal the victory by a final score of 11-3.
Kimberley’s Tom Buchy team advanced to the semi-final by defeating Sparwood’s Ken McHargue 7-6 in a tie-breaker, but was defeated by Craig 9-4.

In other areas of the country, BC’s Greg McAulay sits at 1-3 and Lynne Noble is at 2-2 at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Digby, NS; and Gary Cormack and his team will play their first game against Saskatchewan tonight in the opening draw of the Canadian Wheelchair Curling Championships in Edmonton, AB.
