At the Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Salmon Arm cross-country skier Alysson Marshall is on a roll.
She earned a silver in the 7.5-kilometre Free event Monday, just behind Emily Nishikawa of the Yukon.
On Tuesday, Marshall claimed the podium in the 1,000-m Sprint, with Heidi Widmer of Team Alberta taking silver and Nishikawa earning bronze. She is also competing in the 10-km Classic, and the 4 x 3.75-km relay.
In male hockey, Team BC brought home gold, with Quebec taking silver and Alberta bronze. Salmon Arm Minor Hockey product and Vernon resident Curtis Lazar played a huge role, garnering the most goals and points of all participants. His final tally was 12 goals and five assists for a total of 14 points.
In the final, Team BC downed Quebec 7-4, with Lazar claiming a hat trick.
Female hockey’s Team BC, including Salmon Arm’s Janessa Jenkins, had a gruelling schedule where they faced the Games’ strongest teams first, and both on the same day. Team BC was blanked 4-0 by Alberta on Sunday morning at 11 and then they faced Ontario at 8 p.m., taking a 4-1 defeat. Their next games were Tuesday (after deadline) versus Newfoundland and Labrador, and Wednesday versus Saskatchewan.
In ringette, Team BC finished out of the medals, but Erika Lipsett, one of three team members from Salmon Arm including Jasmine El Gazzar and Brittany Burge, was the top B.C. point-getter with five goals and 10 assists, totalling 15 points.
