A lot of sun and a load of serious golf best describes last weekend’s 108 Ladies’ Club Championship golf tournament at the 108 Resort Golf Course.

Twenty-three women braved the heat to compete for trophies, prizes and bragging rights that went along with the two-day event Aug. 27-28.

Club captain Janet Roux says she was happy with the turnout, considering how busy the weekend was with other events going on in the community.

Annie McKave was the overall low-gross winner, helped along with four birdies scored on the front 9 holes on Saturday. As the overall winner, she was awarded a vest and a plaque.

Judy Scarrow was the winner in overall low-net competition and went home with similar rewards.

“Those were the two big winners of the tournament,” says Roux.

One of the weekend’s highlights was an eagle scored by Susan Skidmore on hole No. 18 and she also went on to win first-place low gross in first flight.

First place low gross in the second flight went to Linda Hames, and Shannon Knapp was winner in the third flight.

First-place, low-net winners from first to third flight were Joanne Garrow, Lorraine McCaffrey and Sharon Claassen.

Second-place, low-gross wins went to Heather Matsuda, Pam Dutchak and Pauline Weigelt.

Second-place, low-net winners were Billy Scott, Shelley Larson and Marian Lines.

Lines also won Saturday’s third flight long drive and closest to the pin (KP) and another KP on Sunday.

Other KP winners were McKave and Julietta Morete.

Long drives on Saturday also went to Garrow and Sharlene Anderson, and Sunday’s winners were Skidmore, Shirley Boysen and Donna Brennan.

Club members will end the season with their annual Wind-up Tournament on Sept. 25. It will include a luncheon and election of officers for the 2012 season.
