Steady defender Carlee Meausette of the Subway Sharks moved up to striker and responded with five goals in two games in NOYSA Under 14/15 Girls House League soccer at Marshall Field.
On Saturday, a shortstaffed Silver Bullets squad battled hard in the first half, but found themselves down 1-0 when Meausette buried a penalty kick after Sarah Orr was taken down inside the box.
The teams agreed to play 10-aside in the second half after the Silver Bullets suffered some injuries, and Meausette responded with two more goals to complete the hat trick, while Ashley Eso rang a shot off the crossbar late in the game for the Sharks.
Harjinder Janda had her best game of the season for the Sharks, while Katie MacGillivray and Cherish Ayers again shared the shutout in the 3-0 victory.
On Sunday, the Green Hornets outplayed the Sharks and were up 1-0 at the half after a nice finish by Mariah Schwark on a breakaway.
The Sharks came out hard in the second half, and were rewarded when Rajvir Randhawa lobbed a shot over the keeper. Randhawa then set up Meausette for the go-ahead goal off a corner, before adding her second off the game with a tough angle shot.
Meausette finished off the 4-1 win with a late goal for the Sharks, who got steady defence all weekend from Kayli Breitkreutz, Nicole Skidmore, Sarah Wiebe and Nikala DeBalinhard.
Kia Motors brushed back Nixon Wenger 3-1 in Under 17/18 Girls action Saturday at Marshall #2.
Kia keeper duties were shared by Jenelle Petersen and Kelsey Raber. Hailey Noakes supplied the first Kia goal on a breakaway down the middle. Kate Curtis then converted a sweet cross from Anna Anderson on the right outside.
Noakes then sent a lovely ground through ball to Peterson for the insurance goal.
“The girls had many attempts at the net and defensively kept their opponents at bay with their fast sweeping techniques and first-to-the-ball attitude,” said Kia coach Shelly Johnston. “It was a great game of passing, chatter and team jelling.”
The Royal LePage Red Bulls played a strong team game in defeating Royal LePage Gold 4-0 in U13 Boys action Saturday at Marshall #5.
The Red Bulls’ defence was especially tough with game MVP keeper Jared Bobryk making numerous stellar saves.
The Kidston crew of Max Fenn, Hayden Broderick, Shane Pelkey and Nick Alveberg all defended ferociously, while Josh Baker and Gaman Singh were their normal reliable selves at the back.
Gavin Donald had a huge game from the midfield position, with his never-quit attitude. Donald also assisted on Marcelo Suro’s first-half tally. Fellow mid fielder Tyler Baginski set up Kye Fentimen for a fine goal while also scoring the goal of the year, a beauty that Messi would have applauded.
Dylan Henry scored a highlight-reel goal on a beautiful effort while David Heng finished out the scoring on a nice feed from Baginski.
In U14-15 Girls action Saturday, the Tracker Jackers defeated Subway Red 3-1 at Marshall #5.
The Jackers’ Kierra Bootsma opened the scoring with Kennedy Pope equalizing tied for Red. The game remained deadlocked until the Jackers were rewarded a direct free kick.
The kick was taken by Ashley Higginson, who took a brilliant shot, sending the ball over the Red defensive wall and into the goal. The Jackers got an insurance goal by Bootsma.
Subway Vanilla Ice played two great U14-15 tie games.
Saturday’s game against saw Subway Orange featured formidable passing and many chances at net. Danya Whibley scored a deuce for the Ice with assists from Hannah Taylor, Camryn Sproule and Julia Wendt. Keeper Halle August was stellar.
On Sunday, at Marshall #4, the Ice battled Subway Red to a scoreless draw.
August was outstanding in net, while glorious scoring chances came from Andraya Holmes, Taylor DaSilva, Josie Kotowski,Colette Hubert and Alicia Hill-Turner. Defensive stars were Carmen Pavlov, Arynn Macmillan, Kia Kaneda, Michelle Ockert and Taia Duke.
