The Okanagan Mission Huskies won five medals and placed 11th out of 92 teams at the 2014 B.C. School Sports swimming championships Nov. 14 and 15 in Richmond.
Grade 12 athlete Zane Torres led the way for OKM with three trips to the podium. He captured gold in the 100 free and 50 fly, and a silver in the 50 free para categories.
The OKM girls 400m relay team made history with the first gold medal in Huskies girls’ aquatics history.
The OKM team edged out defending champion York House with a time of 4:27.79.
The team, made up of two sisters, Emalie and Rachel Schueler, along with Ealin Ran and Makenna Haight, also placed fifth overall in the 200m freestyle relay and eighth overall in the medley relay.
Haight was sixth in the 50m fly, while Rachel Schueler placed 12th for 100m Freestyle overall in the Grade 8-12 age category.
Garrison Frost came home with a bronze medal in the 50m backstroke and was fifth in the 50m para categories.
The OKM team had many swimmers who made it into the top 16 finals and achieved best times.
Other competing members of the Huskies were: Cole Stober, Courtney Chora, Kaitlyn Currier, Brady Diduck, Hanna Eggeling, Stephanie Fowler, Sydney Krupka, Claire Robb and Harrison Stober.
