A team of Bulkley Valley track and field athletes travelled to Coquitlam recently for the B.C. Athletics Championship Jamboree. The event took place July 15 to 17.
From Smithers, Zoe Bizarro competed at the Midget girls level, and finished in third place in the 2000m while finishing in a new personal best time of 7:07.99. She also took seventh place in both the 1200m and 800m races, scoring personal bests in both races as well.
Jessy Zemenchik competed at the Youth girls level, and took fifth in the 400m and 12th in the 200m. Also in Youth girls, Sarah Murray took the silver medal in high jump, clearing 1.60m.
Three alumni from Smithers Secondary School also competed during the event. Kyle Irvine won the Open men’s 1500m with a time of 3:54.52. He also finished sixth in the 800m. Stacey Irvine won the Open women’s pole vault, with a jump of 3.60m. Bryanne Haskins competed in the Junior division, and finished fourth in discus, with a personal best of 30.09m.
