For the third straight year, the MEI Eagles have won the Spartan Cup at the Trinity Western University Spartans Baden Volleyball Festival.
The event, which occurred at the Langley-based university on Friday and Saturday, saw the Eagles senior boys finish second in their pool behind the Abbotsford Christian Knights, but dominate in the playoffs.
The Eagles took down Pacific Academy, Langley Christian and then Langley Fundamental in the tournament final. MEI’s Tyson Ardell was named the most valuable player of the tournament, with Eagles members Trey Smith and Micah Bucknam both named tournament all-stars.

The Knights fell in the semifinals, while the Yale Lions lost in the quarter-final round.
The MEI Eagles also competed in the senior girls gold division at the event, and performed will but bowed out in the semifinals. ACS, competing in the senior girls silver division were also eliminated in the semifinal round.
Over in the junior boys division, MEI had a run to the tournament final, but fell to Langley Christian. The ACS junior boys made it as far as the semifinals, while the Yale Lions lost in the quarter-finals.
The junior girls gold division saw the Eagles reach the semifinals, while the W.J. Mouat Hawks fell in round one.
