MEI Grade 12 student Ashley Huberts has committed to the College of the Rockies Avalanche volleyball team for the fall.

A key member of the two-time MEI Eagles senior girls volleyball team is heading to Cranbrook.

Grade 12 MEI student Ashley Huberts announced on Thursday that she has committed to the College of the Rockies Avalanche for the 2017-18 season.

Huberts helped the Eagles win back-to-back senior girls 2A provincial championships during her time at the school. She was named tournament most valuable player in her Grade 11 year, and was named to the first team all-star team in her Grade 12 year.

She also excelled at the Abbotsford 2016 BC Summer Games, winning a gold medal in beach volleyball.

The Avalanche compete in the PacWest conference, which means Huberts will come home to Abbotsford to play when COTR battles the UFV Cascades and the CBC Bearcats.

She plans to take arts and science courses in the fall, and then possibly transfer into the school’s nursing program.
