Gilles Gaudreau has been dominating local fish derbies, this spring.
Last weekend, he pulled in a 3.28 pounder, which won in the Mesachie Lake Fire Department’s Fish Derby.
The previous weekend, Gaudreau pulled in a 3.25 pound trout, winning him the Valley Fish and Game Club’s annual Terry Oulton Memorial Trout Derby.
Last weekend’s Fish Derby helped the fire department raise about $350 toward running one of their trucks, which services the road out to Port Renfrew.
“Our little community won’t be able to pay for that truck,” Fish Derby organizer Dave Berry said.
Including the basics, such as insurance and gasoline, it costs about $1,500 a year to keep running.
A community garage sale, in front of the Mesachie Lake Fire Hall, is being organized for Saturday, May 28, to Sunday, May 29. Funds from the garage sale will also go toward the truck’s upkeep.
“We’re also always looking for volunteers,” Berry said.
Although a recent membership drive has resulted in four new members, they’re always on the lookout for more members. Another membership drive will be held later on this fall.
