The Oceanside Midget Generals lost a close game to start the round robin portion of the Vancouver Island Hockey Association’s playoffs on Sunday afternoon.
Squaring off against the Campbell River Tyees, the Midget Generals were out front early, but couldn’t hold on to the lead, falling to the Tyees by a final score of 5-4.
The Midget Generals still have three more games to play in the round robin portion of the playoffs. Their next test comes next weekend against Nanaimo, which will take place inside Howie Meeker Arena at Oceanside Place (2:15 p.m. puck drop).
Following that, the Midget Generals will hit the road to take on Powell River and Comox Valley to wrap up the round robin tournament event.
“It was a close game against Campbell River,” forward Austin Hykaway said. “We were down a few guys to injury, so that made things a little more difficult, but we played hard and could have won that one — we just let it slip away.”
“We’ll be alright though. We’ve played well all season and I think we’ll bounce back against Nanaimo next weekend,” Hykaway said.
